The role we're looking to recruit into is:
Healthcare Technical Officer
Salary: £13,903 to £17,003
You don't need medical or laboratory experience to help us save lives, but you must be able to work to strict routines and procedures. You will have to make sure that the blood units are in the right place at the right time at every stage of the process and you can see how we work for ourselves at our Open Day.
Responsible for a range of tasks involved in the automated processing, filtering and batching of blood components, you will ensure that units are correctly labelled and stored in the correct conditions as specified in the guidelines for the blood transfusion service in the UK. You will also operate and clean equipment and keep records up to date. If you identify any defects or unusual incidents during the process, you will report them immediately.
You will be using some basic laboratory equipment as part of your daily routine, but don't worry, we will give you the support and training you need to do a great job. You will also enjoy the satisfaction of providing a service that will always be needed.
With GCSEs in Maths and English at grad C or above, or NVQ or equivalent qualifications, you will also need basic IT skills, and with good communication skills you should be able to work as part of a team as well as on your own. You will also be required to work on a shift basis, including occasional weekends and bank holidays.
