Our new centre

Now that our brand new blood centre is open, it’ll stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our teams will work with the very latest technology, serving 90 hospitals across the Midlands and the Southwest. Each year, more than 600,000 donations will be processed here, making Filton the largest blood manufacturing facility in the world.

Bringing together our diagnostic services, the International Blood Group Reference Laboratory, the British Bone Marrow Registry and the Core Blood Bank, Filton will become a centre of excellence in science and education or, in other words, a centre of the future.

We’ve done our very best to make Filton as comfortable as possible. The first thing you’ll see when you arrive is the landscaped area directly outside the main reception. Step inside the centre, and you’ll notice that there’s electronic air-conditioning throughout. But if you really want to cool down, you can take advantage of the single sex showers in the ground floor changing areas. There’s also a library on the ground floor, filled with web based terminals. Both floors have break out areas, complete with wireless connectivity and informal seating arrangements – perfect for taking a well-deserved break from your schedule.

When you’re working somewhere day in day out, it’s the little extras that matter. Our subsidised restaurant offers comfortable indoor seating and a paved terrace area, ideal for meeting colleagues and visitors alike. Our open-plan offices will encourage people to build close relationships and bounce their ideas off one another, and our meeting rooms will give you that bit more privacy when you need it. In short, it’s the perfect setting for your career.

Travel

There are all sorts of ways to get to Filton, whether by train, bike, car, bus or shuttle bus.

Commuting can be expensive and costly to the environment. To help our staff get to work cheaply and greenly, we offer season ticket loans which are repaid over a ten month period. If you take advantage of this scheme, you can use this loan to pay for a season train or bus ticket. There is also an opportunity for you to be given a one-off advance as a means to buy a bicycle.

For cyclists, there’s a cycling compound in the car park which is fitted with a combination lock to help protect the compound. This means you get a cheap journey to work and a secure place to leave your bike.

The local shuttle bus service is another cheap way to commute. Shuttle buses travel between the Filton Centre and Southmead Hospital regularly throughout the day.
